Turn urban legends into reality! You've probably heard of these tall tales, but it doesn't take much to pull them off. Valentine's Day is one of the most popular days for lovers to propose. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve and birthdays are the other most popular days, so you better make it extra special to be original. From extravagance to furry friends, here's how to pop the question this Valentine's Day.

Dog with engagement ring

Call in the Furry Friends

Have the engagement ring attached to your pet’s collar and call them onto your lap when the moment is right. Make sure your future fiancée really cuddles the dog or cat to notice the bling. Better yet, change out the collar for a flashier one so your lover will definitely notice something is different. There are many heart-themed collars for pets. Also securely attach the ring to the collar in case Fido runs in the backyard to dig up a bone!

Hoofing It

Take your lover on a romantic getaway. Make he or she think the trip is the real Valentine’s Day gift. Buy your significant other something special and stick it in his or her suitcase. Then he or she will think that is the gift and nothing else is coming. Women can buy men cigars, a good bottle of scotch and men can buy lingerie or perfume for their lady. Then coordinate with the resort destination you choose and propose in a completely unexpected location. The staff at Devil’s Thumb Ranch are accustomed to these requests. They can saddle up the horses for a sleigh ride or horseback ride proposal. You can Nordic Trek into the middle of the wilderness and have a staff member prepare a picnic for a winter day proposal. Let the destination guide you in choosing how to propose.

Jeweler Phony Phone Call

Have a friend or colleague call up your home answering machine and leave a message indicating “your package” will be ready in two months. Make sure that your girlfriend will check the messages. The person leaving the message should give a phony date and leave his or her phone number and the name of a jewelry store your girlfriend will recognize. This way, if your girlfriend calls his bluff, at least you will have a head’s up. Chances are, she probably won’t mention the message or even call the jeweler. Then, completely surprise your gal on Valentine’s Day with a proposal and the real ring. She won’t see it coming. She thought she had two months before you were going to pop the question.

Photo Albums

Sit your lover down and tell them you want to flip through a photo album you made. Include photos of some recent event or activity so that the photo album doesn’t seem completely obvious as a diversion for the big question. On the last page of the photo album, place a photo of you on one knee. Include the ring or box in the photo if you like. Hopefully their reaction is an excited and emotional yes!

The Old Fashioned Way

This is the hardest one of all! To truly surprise your future bride or groom is one heck of a challenge. Catch your lover off guard and get down on one knee and propose. Be very coy and plan a low-key Valentine’s Day. Have a wonderful day and go to bed. Wait as long as you can until right before midnight, and then wake your significant other up on one knee with a proposal. Once people go to bed at night, they never see this coming.
