We all have stories... and when it comes to blind dates, it seems there are a lot more scary ones than otherwise. Check out some of these frightening tales of dates gone horribly wrong!

One woman, two stories

Janice Hoffman related two of her blind date disasters:

quotation marks I was recently fixed up by a colleague who is a professional matchmaker and has her own company. She decided I would be a great match for him. He is a doctor, lives [nearby], so he sounded pretty good to me. In the first 10 minutes he told him he might be dead by the end of the year if he doesn't have heart surgery. He is thinking of not having it because he doesn't trust any anesthesiologists (which he is) so he doesn't know what to do. goofy guy - bad blind date All his surgeries have been done while he is awake. quotation marksSince they have to work on his heart, he has no choice. Boy, there's a real turn-on. Not a match for this girl.

Her second story also rated high on the weirdo scale:

quotation marks He brought his dead mother's full-length mink coat in a white garbage bag,  quotation markswhich he had behind the driver's seat, for me to wear on a walk after dinner when it was December in Colorado and about 15 degrees out. Scary!

More horrors

Of course, Janice isn't the only one who had some terrible first dates...

quotation marks When I was a student at UCLA, my sorority hosted a "set up" party with a sailor theme on a boat cruising around. A friend set me up with a guy she said was from USC. No! He was from some community college, and was a total loudmouth. Ate dinner at the dorm before the date, ended up with food poisoning from tainted guacamole. quotation marksSpent the whole night barfing on the boat. Food poisoning and seasickness: bad combo. Guy took off with another girl. - Lissa Coffey, Southern California

quotation marks When I was in culinary school full-time I put a lot of time into my studies and it was difficult for me to meet people outside of learning the cooking ropes every day. A friend of mine was attending a dinner prepared by a guy who was also in culinary school and she insisted I attend. "I think you should meet him!" she exclaimed. "You seem to have a lot in common." I was very excited at the prospect so I got myself together and made my way over.

What I found when I got there was a man who was probably 400+ pounds and had clear difficulties breathing. He barely moved from his chair aside from fussing around in front of the stove for short periods of time! Not only was he severely out of shape, he proceeded to belch multiple times during the dinner. On top of that, he referred to me as "Tootsie" quotation marksand "Hun."  "Would you please pass the mashed potatoes, tootsie?" Boy, did my friend hear it from me once we were out of there! Worst attempt at a set up ever! - Nicole, New York

quotation marks My aunt wanted to hook me up with this young man who went to her church... I was in college in Ithaca, NY and he lived somewhere in West Virginia. We corresponded via email for some time and we seemed to get along ok, but I never saw a photo of him. I had a sorority formal coming up with no date to take, so despite my own personal objections, somehow he convinced me to take him to the formal. He bought his plane ticket right away before I had a chance to really think about it, and then I got his photo in the mail.

I am not a super shallow person when it comes to looks, but he was definitely not someone I was attracted to! But it was too late -- he could not cancel his plane ticket. quotation marksI picked him up from the airport, and I thought, ok we'll just go to this formal as friends, how bad can it be?  Well, he didn't quite get the "friends" thing, because he was really crazy about me, and the whole weekend I had to come up with excuses to avoid his advances. It was a total nightmare. - Never Again Nelly, 27
